The energy crisis in the housing sector

Housing professionals and social landlords face the dual challenge of building new low-carbon homes at pace and scale, whilst ensuring existing homes reach net-zero emissions by 2050[1].

Winter has arrived forcing many people to make difficult decisions about their energy spending. This is particularly the case in the UK, having the oldest housing stock in Europe[2]. The UK's inefficient homes currently account for 21% of all carbon emissions, retrofitting is crucial to meet our net zero target by 2050. 27 mio. homes in the UK must be retrofitted to improve energy efficiency and reduce reliance on fossil fuels by 2030, requiring a tenfold growth in rate of retrofit[3].

While this represents serious challenges here and now, it also presents new opportunities for new housing construction. Yet, builders in the UK have recently been warned that power may not be available until 2030 due to grid capacity issues[4].

So how can we enable house developers and social landlords to build new energy-efficient, low-carbon housing without having to be dependent on the electric grid?

Over the next two days, Ventum Dynamics will meet with housing industry professionals and social landlords at the Homes UK & Unlock Net Zero conference in London to demonstrate how our rooftop-friendly wind can help future-proof new build properties against rising energy costs and CO2 emissions.

The Ventum wind turbines can be mounted on the roof to generate clean energy to power housing stock, helping to mitigate rising heating costs for tenants and residents while offsetting emissions.
